    only socket 754, not good for future upgrades, and only have 128/256KB L2 Cache....but if you're on a budget and not looking for anything amazing and aren't worried about upgrading for a while then yeah they're alright i guess...

    Semprons are pretty good if you don't mind using an outdated motherboard. The 3400+ performance is getting to reach the lowend segment of the Athlon 64 league actually. I'd definately recommend it over socket A any day. The choice pretty much falls down to the 3400 as it's clockspeed is good enough to somewhat compensate for it's not so super 256kb cache. Anything else and you either get an old school 128kb cache or a very low clock speed neither of which are any fun.
