Ok well im building my friend a pc and he wants it fast and able to play games like Half life 2. so what i have so far is a
    1. A7V8X-X
    2.Ati Radeon 9500
    3.ATX Case
    4.512mb pc 2700 ram
    5. LG 52x Cd-Rom

He wants the cpu to run at 2.4 Ghz and i would like an Amd cpu. im going to buy it off ebay if it is possible. he also wants 2 gigs of ram so i guess im going to be buying more pc 2700? when having 2 gigs of ram im guessing i might need a good PSU and for the Vid card i might need some extra cooling?

I have built 1 pc before(which is mine.Amd athlon 2500+) and have enough experiance with hardware but just not the best so if anyone has any advice for me and can help me pick out wht is left that i need to buy i woud be happy :) thx alot

Well you can get a 2500 to hit 2.4 easy enough but you'll need some good name brand non-value ram first. I wouldn't recommend PC2700 but it will be okay still if that's what you can afford. Don't bother with 2 gigs or ram. Obviously it's a perfectly respectable budget rig so it won't need 2 gig's and he probably will barley notice the difference anyway. If I were him I'd get a better video card, like 6600GT instead of the extra gig (I realize that's not the cheapest option but he'd appreciate it). You won't need any extra cooling for a beefy video card of any type, so long as you have 2 fans in you're case you should be all set. I'd recommend 120mm fans but make sure you're case will house them before you buy.
For the psu look for something along the lines of a thermaltake silent purepower 420wt psu. Good stuff for a very low price.

alright good. yeah 2 gigs would be like overkill i think so 1 gig is fine with me.
ok ill look into the PSU now and i cant wait to start building it it is going to be awsome and if this turns out good i will build another one for sure. if this computer turns out good and working properly he will buy it for $300

right now in my pc i have the 2500+ and it is running at 1.83 Ghz???
