Okay I thought I would set up a poll about what people think is more important...Speed (whether it be overclocked or not) or the Temperature of a component (mainly CPU's, GPU's and Memory)

Personally I would have Speed, but only to a certain extent, I'm not one of those people who would overclock something to within an inch of its life just to get it to run fast.
 
add both to that poll as well becouse they both matter, if you want higher speed then obviously there will be a price to pay, wich is higher temperatures, so what do you do to counteract that, you buy better cooling to get the temperature down.
 
speed man, speed, for me at least haha, i dont care if ill have to place it in front of my airconditioner, speed all the way here, would have been a good idea for speed/temperature/noise, be a bit more conflict-able haha
 
yeah i 'spose, mine is cool, not amazingly fast as its an old Celeron (2.6GHz) but it is a bit noisy.....(and by a bit i mean sometimes gets on my nerves)
 
lol, my computer is extreamly noisy, with that fan on top of the stock intel fan/heatsink it increases noise by about double.
 
For me it has to be temps.

My hunmble skinned arse cannot afford to over clock so for me the top priority is to keep the bastard cool!

sabashuali, so are you saying, you cant afford to spend about £5 on case fans and then about £10 on a new cooler for your cpu, it does not cost that much for cooling.

That is what I am saying!
Last time I looked 120mm case fan is nothing less that £5 for one! And a deecent H/S+fan is nothing less than £12-£15.

I had a good look and to really cool down things I need about £20-£30.
If you can point me to a place where I can find the proper stuff for less...

Speed is the only real answer I can see, unless you like to have a slow computer pretty much. The only advantage I can see of a cool chip is more ocing headroom. What's the use of a cool chip when a good oc could run fine at a moderatly hot level (like 50C). And if you don't want to oc just get a fast chip in the first place.
 
For me it has to be temperature. Most of my computers are servers of one kind or another and none of them get turned off at night. I need them up and available so they need to be stable. Their speed is not really much of a priority.
 
Okay I can see that, but for gaming or other demanding tasks on non-server PC's speed is my priority.

Well I appreciate that zrock. As you can guess, temperature is my main priority. But once I get everything on my computer exactly how I want it I will overclock. And by the way, hold on to your hay zrock, tomorrow I'm ripping the entire rig apart, lapping the heatsink and the CPU, and upgrading from AS Ceramique to AS5.
 
speed is not really a priority, I couldn't care less if I had a 987347GHZ system. As long as I can play the latest titles, which I can, so I don't care. Temperature is a concern, if you can't run your machine what's the point of it?
 
Yeah beyond bragging rights I guess speed is only worthwhile untill you exceed the highest demands of current software.
 
i try to keep my computer cool, i dont have that many fans, maybe i should stick some more in there.
i have 2 on side, 1 on back, 1 on front, 1 extra on cpu (dualfan (stock/80mm case fan) ), i know i need a good cooler for the cpu, but with this 9600 card that came with a passive heatsink i knew that would not be very good for overclocking untill i added a fan onto the heatsink, so i added an old stock fan of an intel celeron processor on, now the temperature is 25 degrees, compared to the 45 degrees it is at stock clock settings withought a fan.

so, again i would say both speed/temperature, your not going to get very far with crap fans.
