Firstly i would like to say hello to everyone here Im new to this forum and this is my first post, so i will try to be as direct and specific about my problems as i can!. I have two problems, i dont think that they are linked but i may well be wrong. The main problem is this, after about 2-5 minutes of using IE it will disconnect, this is if im using IE or if it is idle...ok i thought, probably some little piece of spyware or malware. So i run Ad-Aware SE Pro and SpyBot..nothing found? i run AVG Free Editon, noting found..i run Trojan Hunter, spyware doctor, Microsoft Anti Spyware, Highjack this and the online scans of norton anti virus AND the online scan of Trend Micro....NOTHING is found. i also cleared the history and deleted all my cookies, reset the browser settings to default all to no avail! Maybe, i thought its time to switch to firefox (ive been meaning to do this for months but never have) i download firefox, all is well, then it just disconnects. I know this is not my ISP as my system does exactly the same at my girlfriends. But the thing that is very confusing to my is that i can still connect to game servers via the ASE and have no problem at all playing for hours...so why is it thatthis only happens when i try to connect via a browser IE or Firefox do ezxactly the same, this is really annoying me now!! The second problem is that some of my desktop shortcuts keep disapearing and reapearing...im not really that botherd about that just the connection thing.. any help here would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Hmmm. Strange problem. I'm guessing you use dial-up rather than broadband. I'm also guessing you have the browsers configured to dial-up themselves when they are opened. If I'm right then try connecting manually before you open the browsers and then go into Firefox and see if that works any better. As for the disappearing icons try disabling auto-arrange of the desktop icons and see if that solves it. Let me know if these ideas help at all.
thanks for the reply. No i do not have dial up, i have a 2 meg connection through BlueYouner. So there are no dial up settings in connection settings, its a really wierd problem, as its fine for a few minutes then just disconnects, buyt i can still play online games via the all seeing eye, for as long as i like with no probs... really strange and even more annoying!
Try going to DSL Reports and run the tweak test. After it's finished post a copy to your results here (link should be at bottom of results page). It may just be an incorrect setting and hopefully this will show myself or someone else enough that we can try and see what's going on.
