My friend has a hewlett packard computer that is about 3 years old. It has winxp installed. When windows loads up the computer is running very very very slow looks like that there is alot of spyware on it and other things. I what to run it in safe mode. What steps do I need to take so I can start the computer in safe mode before windows boot up. I know that there is some key that you press before bootup I do not remember. Can someone please help if you can.

    Thank You

    Windows XP

    Using the F8 Method

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
    3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
    5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

If this doesn't work, you can edit your Boot.ini by running msconfig and selecting "SafeMode", restart, you boot to safe mode, when you are finished un tick it.
