Symantec Antivirus

I know it's the oldest question in the book - but is symantec AV really any good from a "professional" opinion?

It has the free updates, unlike other AV's I have tried (Like Panda) however it can be heavy on system resources... and now with the latest update this DoScan.exe is it the way for things to come?

I have read in many posts and many sites that Norton are crap, but don't they make this (supposedly good) AV?

So - my question is - Symantec or NOD32? :good:
 
I've also heard about the high system resource usage. However, if protecting from viri is your aim, then Norton is ok I think. However, there are many other AVs that are just as good, one superior is Trend-Micro AV.
 
I'd recommend either Trend-Micro or Sophos. I've used NOD on the server end, but not the client end, so I can't speak for that. As for NAV, I've used that on both client and server, and I despise it for many reasons. It is better than it was, but so are all the AVs of that time.

In the free AV arena, AVG-Free is pretty good for the casual user, as is ClamWin.
