Temp Deviations

Hi

I have a new PC and the CPU temp (according to a temp probe i put in myself) at idle is 26*-30* but when I looked on the bios it said that it was at 40. I was wondering which one would be right and what the max temp is for a CPU, RAM and GPU and also how to find the true temp of these parts.

Depends on the particular unit. While CPU's can run up to 80*C+, it's generally advised that they stay below 60*C. GPU's typically have a higher heat threshold, so while I haven't heard as much emphasis, if they're below 90-100*C, they should be fine.
I'm not sure what the safe temps of RAM are, but generally, that's only a problem with extreme voltage---generally for those doing extreme overclocking with DFI motherboards. The reason I say that is because RAM does not produce enough heat to require heatspreaders. They're on there for looks mostly...although the side benefit is apparently a better defense against ESD. Heatspreaders may help out a little in cooling, but a fan will do much more.
