Every one of the three big game companies have guns. Weapons. Things that go boom. Microsoft has Xbox Live and Halo 3 coming down the road, and Sony has the PS3 and a lot of bad publicity. But what about Nintendo? What arsenal does Nintendo have that will keep them ahead of the curve?

IF the Wii's controller works as well as they say it does, it really will make it the big thing. Of course, I think the sub $200 price tag will also make it that more appealing. Sony has *no* clue about making a standard that will get ahead. If you make it something that the consumer wants, then you can get it going. Sure, new stuff does cost more, but you have to give people a reason to buy it...other than it's simply the latest thing or it won't last. Funny name aside, the Wii will be a big hit. The remote isn't simply a gimmick, and if the article is right about games taking advantage of it, Nintendo is going to make a comeback.

Personally, having a console and DVD player together isn't that appealing. I'd much rather have the standalone units and a cheaper console. Sure, blu-ray is new, but I'm not sure where the market demand is yet. For alot of people, DVD is fine. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD could be nice for storage, but I don't think we're going to either pick up for a few years. IMO, higher-capacity storage probably won't take off until until the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD crap is settled. I think consumers have learned from the Betamax/VHS issue...but I could be wrong, people are stupid.

I've actually used my PS2 dvd player since i got it in 2001 and i havent used any other dvd on my tv. I like that the DVD palyer is integrated into the PS2, but my gripe with PS3 is that blu ray is not the standard. DVDs were getting hot when PS2 arrived i feel sony was successful because they incorporated technology that people were craving. With Blu Ray, no one really gives a shit b/c they already have their DVDs to watch movies...this time Sony is including technology that one one really wants or is sketchy about, and at a HIGH price. Combining features is a smart move, but forcing expensive features is not.

Well I do agree with that, however i think the biggest "scare" about the ps3 having blu ray is that it isn't the standard. I mean here you are buying this high dollar machine with blu ray features, which might not even become the standard. So you would ultimately end up with pricey game system with an integrated technology that lost out and only has 20+ movie titles that are compatible. However, all of that is assuming that HD DVD loses out. But who knows. As its been said, people are just fine with dvds. I personally think that the Wii will win out, simply because of low cost, no questionable technologies, and an innnovative controller technology. It is the first of its kind, and if you think about it the firsts have always been popular.
