    Hi there,

Im currently running 1gb of 2700 (2 x 512), my mobo has room for one more stick, will i see much of a performance increase if i up it to 1.5gb (3x512)? Will this stop it running in dual channel mode?

I used to have 1.5gb of 2100 ya see and the comp gets better marks with 1gb2700 than it does 1.5gb2100

more RAM is generally the best upgrade to make, the reason your pc benchmarked better with the lesser amout of RAM is cos you went from 1Gb at a speed of 2100 but you plugged in an extra 512Mb at a speed of 2700, if you plugged 3 sticks of 512Mb 2700 your pc would benckmark even higher, what are you using the pc for

You would get better speeds using PC2700 as it runs faster, having more is just useful for memory hungry applications, those that require more memory bandwidth will perform better when using faster RAM - not more of slower RAM.
By having 3 modules in it is likely that your RAM will stop running in Dual-Channel mode.

I don't think you will benefit from the extra RAM at this stage - not with Windows XP and Linux. If I were you, I would wait til Vista hits our shores and note the system requirements.

That depends on what you do. If you're playing games like FEAR or Battlefield 2, then it will probably help you.

Dual-channel will work, so long as you have the same amount of RAM in each channel. In otherwords, with your setup, dual-channel would be disabled. If you're using RAM hogs (like FEAR or BF2 or doing video editing), you're going to get more of a benefit out of having more RAM than the speeds.

Cheers for the help guys, the main reason ive been thinking of doing this is i'm a total WoW addict, and AOE in 40 mans is killing my fps down to 3-4 :S - also as soon as ive finished my thesis im gonna hit oblivion :D

Well for oblivion the extra 512 will help, granted it's way more graphics intensive but at least you won't be bottlenecking in the ram department.
