copying cd and computer went blank with no video signal. Re-boot no effect- no boot sequence noises and no video signal. Swapped video card checked connections, swapped monitor - no go. There is power to components. Motherboard failure?

Just because power is getting to components doesn't necessarily mean it's enough. Try a new power supply...and make sure it's at least the same size as what you have in their now. More watts won't hurt, but don't make that the key factor. If a 500W power supply is running for $20, chances are it's a POS, so look at something like Antec or Sparkle/Fortron as these are widely available...at least in north america.

you can try a different supply if you have one!

was that the first time you tried to copy a cd on the computer?

no .. think copying a coincidence. HD only 6m old but not like HD failure as no boot .. just no output at all.

What I would do is have the minimum stuff, so only the video card, memory and the CPU are installed! to see if it works! This could very well be related to the power supply!

also try and make sure everything is plugged in correctly!
