My laptop recently died so I took the C drive and put it in an HDD external box, the problem I have is that I when I plug this now external drive into another PC or laptop, I find that I am unable to open my personal folder in the 'Users' folder, even when I try to open it as an administrator. It just won't open. The C drive comes from a laptop that ran on Vista, I have tried to access it from a Vista-run PC and from a Win7-run laptop... I've had no luck opening it on either. I can see my personal folder in the 'Users' folder, I click on it and the progress bar kicks in at the top of my window, at first it progresses fast, but about half way through it slows down until it stops completely when it has just about reached the end and then it suddenly closes.
Hi, I am not sure if it is a permissions problem or not in this situation. I found when I installed a new windows 7 os on a drive, and wanted to access my old xp files on my old drive, I didnt have rights. Someone created a registry fix though, that after you run it, you can right click a file or folder and you will have an option that says take ownership. This will change the folders permissions so that you will then have full rights to it from your windows 7 machine. This is the link to the file http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...ership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/ Its a good idea to make a backup of your registry first, before you make any changes. In the run line, type regedit and hit enter. It will open the registry. Then click file, export, and then save a copy of your registry as a backup in case you have any problems.
