I've been using Dapper Drake for awhile now on my Kubuntu box and I've been really impressed with it.

I've just this minute finished upgrading Ubuntu on my other computer and rebooted. Well I am pleased to say that it's still working! For some reason I was half expecting the X server to fail, or some other huge catastrophe! Guess I've still got the bitter state of SuSE in mind :(

    First impressions? WOW :)

Lovely, soothing BROWN eyecandy! YUM! Seriously though, the eye candy is as good as SUSE. I'll get around to enabling the 3D desktop thing later with XGL and my trusty nVidia Geforce2 Ultra 64MB.

Other notes? Well the first program I checked out was the new Rhythmbox music player. In Breezy Badger, I didn't really like this program. Put it up against Amarok and it looks pale. However, the version included in Dapper is awesome. Much, much better then I expected. It now scans the music library every so often (thank God) and has a better interface too.

just orderd another HDD just to test out linux, I downloaded the new Suse 10.1 I think but will try this first, sounds good.

I've been looking at the 3d desktop screenshots, looks pretty cool.

Just installed and finished configuring Dapper with my rt61 wifi card. Once everything's set up it was ok.

I personally hate the brown theme, so straightaway switched to Clearlooks.

Overall I like it. After using a bit more "experienced user" distro Ubuntu takes some getting used to. Once the hideous theme is gone its quite good.

The first thing i do whenever I install Ubuntu is to sort out the SUDO issue. I always change it back to the tradition root sudo login. It's just crazy the way the ubuntu team have set it up

Other then that though, everything is peachy :)

I did notice one annoying bug though, which happened when I upgraded my Kubuntu installation as well. OpenOffice gets remove and the upgrade never takes place! It's not too difficult to fix though, just 'apt-get install openoffice'!

I think i'll spend some free hours over the weekend writing up a 'Getting the most from Ubuntu' guide. I've learned a hell of a lot recently, so it's only fair that I share it :)

Indeed, the only thing that keeps me from recommending K/X/Ubuntu to everyone I meet is the stupid way they handle the admin account. Other than that, a really great distro that really shows what Debian is made of.
