Hi all, i've had my p.c for approx 3 years now and i'm thinking of upgrading various components. I.E graphics card, monitor, psu for starters. Here's what my current spec is. Mother board is - Asus PR4800-VM. PSU is - 350w Monitor is a ViewSonic VA721 (17" TFT ) 200GB Hard Drive 1GB Ram 2x 512 DDR Pentium 4 - 3.2 GHz Graphics - On Board Radeon 9100 IGP? Does anyone know what type of slot this motherboard has? I know one of the slots is AGP, but not sure about the other slots, there are two free both white in colour? The AGP one is the brown one? Right? Also can any PSU go inside my tower and connect to this motherboard? Sorry for the tech newbie questions, never gone inside the case before apart from to clean the fans and heat sink. Any upgrade suggestions welcome. Not an extreme gamer, but want a better than average gfx card.
Hello, What do you use the computer for? If you use it for gaming, or use memory hungry applications, I would highly reccommend an AGP Graphics card for your system, (yes the brown one will be your agp. The "white slots" are PCI slots and are for connecting add on peripherals such as sound cards, or USB/firewire Host controller cards) Please can you re-check your motherboard model, because I did a search and as far as I can see, it doesn't exist, (this will help me determine what power supply you may need)
Hi Rimmer, sorry about that mobo is ASUS P4R8000-VM. Got the 4 and the "R" mixed up. I play some games, call of duty ect and i know my Internet security is hungrier than a a pack of wolves!!! Thanks
How much were you wanting to spend on your video card? Which Call of Duty game do you play? That will help determin which AGP card you would require. The other thing you should think of replacing is your PSU. 350w would be OK for a few video cards, but the newer, higher powered AGP cards take a bit more than that, and needs to be stable. If you are willing to spend around $130 on your AGP card to try to squeez that last little tiny bit of life out of your system try to go with a Radeon X1950 GT. It's actually one of the best AGP cards ever, especially overclocked. But you would need a decent PSU..
