Right now i have a 2.6 pentium 4, a bad motherboard, 1 gig of pc3200 and an ati x1900. the only great part of my computer is the graphics card. I am looking to upgrade to get into some of the newer games coming out, as well as vista, and i would like to know if these are compatible. I would also like to know if these are the best options for this price range. Graphics card: You didnt add a graphics card in the list so I assume you want to use that with your new build... but you can't. Your graphics card is most likely an AGP not a PCI express card. Your new motherboard supports only PCIexpress so you would need to get a new graphics card. I would recommend a Geforce 7900GS on a budget, or a 8800GTS superclocked by INNo3d as it has the most value than the other higher end cards and it supports DX10. Mobo: Also, I wouldnt get a MISS... I mean Crossfire mobo, I would get one with an Nforce chip that handles SLI like (if your on a budget) Gigabyte M55-SLI, it's using the old SLI chips but it still rox! and your CPU on your list is compatible with it. Or one of the boards that has the 680i chipset so you can use a Core 2 Duo (it's faster than the X2 range from AMD) RAM: that RAM's ok.
so they are all compatable right? i prefer gforce but i got a very good deal on an ati radion x1900 xt so i'm building around that. my current motherboard is pci-e but it can only handle a single core and that's mainly why i'm upgrading. i also have only 512mb of ram and it's pc3200/ddr400 so i thought i'd upgrade on that too since this new mb wont take ddr400. do you think i could get a better motherboard and processor for around the same price?
no. I think that is a pretty good combination and you can just get a crossfire edition X1900XT and get dual cards going.
