I have a huge problem with my computer, just so you know I'm using one of my other computers connected to the network, but my main computer is the one that's got the problem. I came home today and used my computer but when I switched the speakers on I had no sound, when I clicked on Volume Control it told me it was missing an Audio Mixer, but everything seemed the same in the Device Manager. Anyway, I decided to reset my computer to fix the problem, it took a while to get to the Welcome screen and I thought it had hung on me, so I rebooted. This time I decided to wait for longer, and then the login icons appeared, so I logged in to recieve a message that said "Windows will shut down in 60 seconds, this was authorised by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Error: The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) did not respond" Or it was something along those lines, should I reinstall Windows or is there an easier solution? Please help as soon as possible.
Ahh Windows RPC, one of the many wonderful new things in XP :good: Was it upto date virus wise? and patch wise? as alot of the worst Worms out take exploit Windows RPC.
Yeah I had BitDefender Professional Plus ver 8 up to date on viruses, although I don't have Service Pack 2 on account it makes Firefox stop running for me, unless there's a way to correct that? It's fixed now, but I had to completely reinstall windows.
I have SP2 installed and Firefox runs ok. The RPC caused so much headaches (well the worms that exploited it did). Try updating XP every now and again to check for new security patches.
Thanks, I will do that once I get it connected to the network again, until then I have no internet access on that machine but I'll give it a thorough system scan today and update it when I get it connected tonight. Thanks muchly for the advice.
