I want to watch Media from my computer to my TV. I know TV Turners allows for you to watch TV on your computer monitor, but I want it the other way around. What accessories do I need? (My monitor has two ports at the back; DVI I think its called)
Hey, someone else was asking this same question. I am going to post my reply. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I setup my girlfreinds computer just for this purpose. I bought an ati all in wonder 2006 edition that I bought at circuit city. It has a coax input so you can watch and store television on up to 125 different channels on your computer. As far as TV output it is simple, on the dvi port there is a composite out for video that you just plug into video1 or video 2. There is also s-video which works in the same manner, just plug it in and run. In order to access it you just put your tv on whichever video channel and you drag the media application to your tv monitor. This can also work with you tube, media player, or you can view missed episodes from abc, nbc, ect. You can also use your computer as a dvd player for your tv. Sound I have running through the computer speakers, I bought a good 2.1 setup which blows away the tv speakers. If you want to run your sound through you pc speaker you dont have to do anything, just play your media. I have not however bother to configure the sound to be controlled by the tv/audio reciever if you have a home theater but I dont think it is that difficult. The only downfall to this setup is you have to have the computer close enough to the tv so the s-video or composit cable will reach and you will have to be able to see what you are doing so the computer will have to be in the same room for easy access. A cordless keyboard and mouse setup is advised if you watch missed episodes of lost or heroes as they have ads that force you to click to continue every 10 or 15 minutes. Its worth the time and money. Dave" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basically what you will need is a video card with an output that is compatible with your tv. Most newer cards have s-video input plugs that you can run from your video card to your tv and then watch it on a video channel. If you have a motherboard video card then you are not going to have this option. You dont have to have a tv tuner card but you can use it to tape stuff so it might be worth it. Also if you dont have s-video then you will be forced to get a card like my all in wonder that has a composite output (I.E. red white yellow, yellow being video) Good luck. Dave
ok, so I think I need an all in wonder, since my TV has the old red, yellow, and white hook up... is it possible to get a cable that would hook my Monitor and TV together (DVI to the red, yellow, white output) so i wouldn't hav to get an all in wonder; my vid card has a dual mode view feature
In my video card setup, there is an s-video to composite but that will require an s-video output which most newer video cards have. As far as dvi adapters I am not really sure what is available for single purchases. Depending on what kind of media you are going to run and how much you are going to be doing you might want to consider a video card regaurdless. It wont hurt to take the load off your motherboard by replacing your onboard video. In addition to the obvious of the all in wonder it also came with alot of editing software and various media programs that you might be interest in. Good Luck! Dave
deciding not to get an all in wonder, but instead to get a "S-VIDEO male to 3 RCA male cable hookup" from my laptop to my TV, so while I surf the net on my desktop, at the same time I can watch shows from video sharing sites like youtube etc. :chk: op:
