Hi,

i have a 80 GB seagate hardidisk. I copy many DVD's on my hardidisk.

Is it recommended to watch a dvd movie directly from hard disk instead of DVD rom??

and watching movies directly from hard disk reduces the life of Hard disk or not???

Not at all, if anything~watching them from the HDD makes them play smoother as from the HDD its a faster data transfer speed!
Just remember if you watch them all the time or even once or twice they will fragment which will reduce the speed at which they play!
If this happens just do a disk defragment!

Practically it's probably faster and more stable, legally it's highly suspect.

Reading a text file from your hard-drive reduces it's life, theoretically. If you want your hard-drive to last forever pack it up in thick cotton wool, store it in a fire-proof safe and put the safe a few miles underground in nuclear fallout shelter - but even then I'd have my doubts. Using the drive at all will create wear and reduce its life, watching movies is no different but I don't know of any reason why it would be worse than, say, playing games, defragging, running virus checks, etc.

I wouldn't imagine playing them to cause fragmentation. Wouldn't the file be written and then just play? Writing and changing files fragments the drive, not simply accessing them.

Well it does on my computer aswell as my cousins!
I also watch DVD's on my computer ATM because my dvd rom is stuffed, ill have to defrag every couple of weeks because the dvd's fragment into 850MB chunks and the playback gets choppy!
