Okay there is another thread where i explained that my memory wasnt running as fast as it should, it was running at 266MHz instead of 333MHz, so i figured out with the help of a couple of people (Big B and pelvis_3) that i had to alter the FSB on my CPU.
Its a crappy Celeron 2.6GHz which had a FSB bus of 100MHz (26x multiplier)
To get my memory up to speed i have to increase my FSB to 125MHz. So far i have got it up to 120MHz and my CPU is running at 3.12GHz, its stable (as it could be, i still have the PSU problem i think... and i am still waiting for my PSU but thats not relevant) and is still running cool.
Idle temps without F@H running are around 20-24*C and with F@H running its at about 30*C GO ARCTIC COOLING!!!
I'm quite happy with my efforts so far as this is the first time i have overclocked and i have used the advice on this forum to help me. I took it slow, just eased it up a little bit at a time and made sure it worked alright.
I'm going to try and get it up all the way so i can run my memory faster (CPU will have to be at 3.25GHz) and i have already noticed the difference.
I was just wondering what you all think and whether going up to 3.25GHz is the right thing to do.
 
There may be an option in the BIOS which allows your memory to run asynchronously. Your memory can run at a different speed from the FSB if this option is available and you should be able to push it to 333MHz and leave the FSB as it is.
 
yeah there might be but i cant find it, i'll keep looking though, if not then i'll leave it as it is as its noticably faster now than it was before.
 
very nice overclock Mat555, you can have a go at going for 3.25Ghz, I'd be interested to see how far you can take it.
 
i did go up to 3.25GHz but my computer crashed...twice, now i wasnt sure whether that was because of the overclock (cant see how it could be though) or the other problems i've been having,
i dont know if i'll go over 3.25GHz because my memory will run faster and i can't see how to get the memory to stay where it is and let the FSB be changed, i think the ratio between the 2 is fixed at 3:4 (FSB:RAM respectively)
 
I like to use Prime95 to stress my OC's for at least 24 hours. The general rule of thumb with overclocking is to stress it with Prime95 for 24+ hours and not have it turn up any errors.
 
ahh cool, well i would like to but my computer has been crashing recently (even before the overclock) thats why i have a new PSU on order but i will give that a go sometime after i get it as i hope it stops crashing otherwise it could me my motherboard thats the problem any thats slightly off topic.
i will continue to search for a way to change the ratio of my FSB:RAM or try to get the ram to run independantly to the FSB of the CPU
 
Mighty impressive:good: Once you get the new psu bump her up to 3.25Ghz. Your Freezer 4 can handle, chances are you can get it to that speed but there are obviously limets on every chip out there, maybe you just hit a wall? See what you come up with, either way it's an ode to your cooling and your Celeron.
 
I also noticed you have some ValueRAM. You might want to run [google]Memtest[/google] at stock speeds. If the RAM's not stable, then that could be part of your instability. It's not terrible RAM, but don't expect anything miraculous from it.
 
yeah i have tested with memtest at stock speeds before, and all was fine, i might look into getting some ram heat spreaders as well, might not make a lot of difference but you never know.
Yeah Kudos to Arctic Cooling for mighty performance on the Freezer 4 HSF!
