gonna have an Intel Core2 Duo processor, and an nVidia geforce 8800 video card... if no one advises differently, as far as motherboard im looking at the Intel Desktop Board D975XBX2. its pretty much Intel's top of the line board right now. does anyone have a reason why i wouldnt want this board, or should go with a different one?

there is no reason you should go with a bored that is from intel, there are lots of other boards out there, i would go with a different motherboard, one thats got more features.
How much is this desktop board going to cost you? I think you could get a better board for the price.

i see. so exactly what features do you think ill need that the intel board doesnt have? maybe youll actually have an argument that changes my mind. although somehow i doubt it.

Sorry, i was not thinking, i never even looked at the specs of the board.
But should you want to play games which you proberbly do with a card like that, i would reccommend getting a board more aimed at gamers than a standard intel board.
Also, you have a Nvidia card, are you ever going to concider SLi? because if so, this motherboard wouldent be good for you as it supports CrossFire which is ATi, and not nvidia, yea your Nvidia card will work fine in it, but should you concider using 2, they wotn work.

I would get something like that, i would think that its got better performance towards gaming, should you ever decide to overclock, then this should be a good board too based on the reviews people have submited.
Sure the motherboard your looking at from intel supports all the latest techonology and should work fine, but if your going to be gaming alot, then i really dont think a standard intel board is the right choice.
I am still learning you know, i dont have much experience with motherboard like knowing whats best etc but those are my thoughts anyway, hopefully a member like BigB can give you some better advice.

I would go with Nforce chipsets, just generally been my choice, i have no experience with the newest intel boards, i have an intel board in my really old emachines, really reliable, but not for gaming.
Boards from other ocmpanys such as Asus, Evga, Gigabyte etc.. tend to have alot more features than what the standard intel boards would have, these companys really customize the boards, get the full features out of them, for example, buying an intel board, i am guessing that Overclocking features in the bios would be locked and hard ot unlock, i dont know if this is the case with the new boards, but it happens in allot of pre built computer form Hp, as they all usually use the standard intel boards.
To sum it up, if i had to choose, Nvidia Nforce, better performance for gaming, depending what motherboard you get aswell, they will be tailoured for gaming.

gotcha... no, i wont be overclocking or doing anything extreme or out of the ordinary. thats why i was just going to go with the intel board... also because ive used intel boards in the past and have never had a problem.

If your looking for a good motherboard thats with an Nforce Chipset i think your most likely gonna have a 680i chipset.
There are some nice motherboards with Intel chipsets though.
