What setup, for what price? (UK £s)

Hi all, I am considering on building a new computer, maybe later this year, but I don't know what to buy to get the most out of my cash. (I dont want to buy an expensive CPu that will bottleneck the graphic card etc.) anyway, the new core 2s are suposed to rock, but what does anybody think will be good for the cash in October? Basically I'm asking what CPu, What graphic card, and what memory. The rest I know what I am doing.

I was thinking about a 1.86GHz core 2 duo with Dual GeForce 7600GTs each 512mb running in SLi, what does everybody think?
 
How much RAM do you want to use? I would suggest 2 GB. And about that CPU, I would suggest an Intel Core 1 Duo 2Ghz. That is a very fast processor :)
EDIT: The Core 2 Duo is not much faster than the Core 1 Duo, but more expensive.
 
The Intel Core Duos aren't as good as the Core 2 Duos! Not even close! They have half the L2 cache, half the FSB, latency from the core to the L2 cache is 1/3 slower which will in turn reduce FSB bandwidth even further, they are 32bit and besides.... can you even get Intel Core motherboards for desktops? I thought they were for Laptops only, they are all Socket M. I dont even know where to buy an Intel Core Duo!

If you are thinking about an Intel Core based CPU id personally go for the 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo because its the same as the higher clocked Intel Core 2 Duos except the multiplier is set lower. These things easily overclock to 3ghz! I dont think you can get a 3ghz Intel Core 2 Duo that isnt an Extreme Edition. I know the 2.67ghz Core 2 Duo is about 3 times the price of a 1.86ghz one though! A Core 2 Duo 1.86ghz at 3+ghz can apparently give the Core 2 Duo EE a good run for its (£670) money... all for £110!

If your not building anything until October theres no point in pricing up now!

Come October im sure the Intel Core Quadros will be more affordable.... maybe AMD will have caught up by then because they are planning a quad core too... though it will be new by October and probably cost more than Intel's quad core.
Id just wait until the money is in the bank and you are ready to spend it before choosing your parts.
 
aye, just planning ahead :D seeing whats good now and it may be cheaper in a few months, and yes, i will be using 2x1GB Probably corsair value select, XMS2 if its not too much more
 
If you want to save money, what I'd suggest is purchasing a single 7900 series card and pick one up later when their dirt cheap. If you go with your original plan of 2 7600GT's, any video card upgrade you do is going to leave you either going back to 1 or upgrading both. Unlike Crossfire, SLI requires the same GPU to be used. You can't run a 7600GS and a 7900GTX in SLI.

Any rough idea of what you're looking to spend?
 
£400 to £500 on the PC itself, the hard drive, I already have along with optical drives and case.

But I aint building till october-ish, i jus wanted to see whats good now that might drop in price by that time, i dont mind what make the stuff is, ATi CF, or SLi, or Intel CPu or AMD, i jus want the same league CPu as me Graphic card so it doesnt bottleneck anything
