After running for almost a year without even one single crash, my pc is now behaving very strangely. Basically now my computer will only boot up or get into the bios when i loosen one of the clamps holding the CPU heat sink. If I switch on without doing this nothing at all will appear on the screen. Also if i push the clamp back down after boot up the system will hang.

My system details are as follows

Gigabyte SINXP1394 - motherboard
Pentium 4 Intel 2.6Gz CPU
Sapphire Radeon 9200 128MB AGP graphics card
one stick 512MB DDR memory
160 GB maxtor hard drive
15 GB hard drive (this is C: drive) - think its a FUJI make
windows XP professional - SP2

I have heard of this issue with Asus P4C800-E boards. The cause has been either solder globs on the board under the processor mount, or simply the heatsink mounting too tight. It is strange that the problem would crop up now after a while that it worked fine.

no changes have been made

the system crashed, had to reset then would only get to the bios screen, then after a few more tries wouldn't start at all would only get the fans turning on but nothing appeared on screen. decided to give everything a good clean, as was quite dusty inside. but still the same.

it was inly reading another post i saw the idea of loosening the clamps and to my suprise it worked.

i have also now tried taking out the cpu and put back in, but still blank screen
