ok, so i am a fairly big noob when it comes to this and thought i would upgrade my processor. so my big question is will a Intel Xeon 3.2GHz 1MB 800MHz processor be compatable with the Nvidia MCP73 motherboard? any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
What is the make and model of the motherboard? The key here is to match the sockets of the motherboard and processor.
Generally, Xeon's are not compatible with your average consumer motherboard, and use a different socket than related Pentium, Core-series, or Celeron processors. A chipset may be able to work with all of them, though I don't recall nVidia targeting the server segment that the Xeon is usually aimed at. But, yeah, without specifics on the CPU and motherboard, it's really hard to say. Odds are they probably won't.
