Will this work?

    Alright i want to buy the Asus - A7V8XX motherboard, and i found this information about it ASUS A7V8X-X AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/Duron Socket A Processor mboard VIA KT400 Chipset A7V8X-X VIA KT400 333 FSB PC3200 DDR400 6 x USB 2.0 Onboard LAN 6-channel Sound ATX


    now what i want to know is will this processor be compatable with the motherboard Intel - Pentium 4 3.0GHz 800MH , i noticed on the description of the motherboard it sasys AMD athlon/athlon xp/ duron socket a processor. does this mean i have to get a amd Cpu?

    yes, it does.

    The sockets are different so therefore the chip won't fit.

    Plus an Athlon basically murders any similiar spec pentium, so you are better off going for AMD anyway.

    If you want to use your P4 CPU then get an Intel mobo.

    The fastest CPU you can buy is the Athlon XP 3200+. You cannot use an Athlon 64 or Athlon FX CPU nor any Sempron in Socket 754 packaging (but Socket 462 is okay, Socket 462=Socket A).
