    I recently ran a mcafee anti virus scan on my windows xp and I cleaned the infected files.But now when I try to restart the windows, it does not start and I get the message like "that windows could not start properly and that some recent software or hardware changes might have caused this".Is there a way around this without formatting and reinstalling windows.

    try using your windows xp installation disc and then instead of using choosing to install xp select repair...this way your system files get replaced and your programs and settings remain the same....

    you may however need to install some drivers

    1. I second Ghostman_1 - try Safe Mode;
    2. Delete, erase, erradicate that mcaffee piece of **** (probably from safe mode, if that works) and never use it again;
    3. Do the repair functionality of the Windows XP installation CD. That's sure to reset things to normal again.
