got a problem with Win XP SP2 its not hardware cos Win9x is fine (except a FF problem) using Acronis PartitionExpert 2k3 (bootable CD) to set active partition, but received loads of errors on HDD

XP is behaving like i should use recovery console to disable mup but i can't access RC
but won't give me access to recovery console and freezes at blank screen

i did have a 15Gb (which has dissapered) partition on the 80gig seagate
but now i appear to have 4 partitions that are being reported as:

    size: type: system:
    923.2Gb 0x65 Netware 3.1x
    544.3Gb 0x72 unknown (72)
    923.2Gb 0x72 unknown (72)
    27.1Gb 0xd unknown (D)

i think i need to repair HDD first
then i think XP will allow me access to recovery console
BTW recovery console is installed to HDD and timeout in boot.ini set to 1 second

seatools freezes when i start quick test (mouse freeze, NUM lock and CAPS lock won't turn on / off)
but running Me from the HDD to ask for help with no apparent problems, except FF has started stopping (just hope it doesn't stop starting lol)
so i'm now using Xandros to post this

ive changed things around to try to make it easier to understand, hope it helps

I am sorry but i am having a hard time trying to understand exactly what the problem is here.

If I assume correctly, your Windows XP partition is no longer booting? What about the Operating Systems on the other partitions?

XP passes POST, and enters its own boot menu,
and i have the recovery console installed on HDD then no matter which option i pick (in boot menu the pc continually reboots, as for the other OS's, they seem fine except recently FF (in Me, 98 seems fine) has been a naughty boy and shuting down with the only error message something like FF needs to be restarted, thats why i'm now in Xandros
i've just about givven up on retreaving the 15Gb partition, i'm thinking of just LLF the drive and sod it, ran seatools but that froze before the quick test began (mouse not responding & NUM & CAPS lock not going on and off

Xandros is running on the same computer you are facing the problem with? and there is no problem if you run Xandros? Do you have a separate HDD.
If yes then install your windows on that and recover your data on it, if u have something important.

already decided to LLF drive, just not doing it while i wait for more replies, but i do have an old 20.5 Gb IBM deskstar, somewhere, so i think i'll try to find that, then put seagate as slave and LLF the :swear: seagate

sorry karan, yes Xandros is on another HDD, but i think i need to rectify the HDD errors first (over 3000Gb partitions showing on an ST38001A (only 80 Gig) but every time i reinstall XP, XP behaves like i need to enter "disable mup" in recovery console, will try installing XP to another HDD, thanks

finally sorted it, don't know what it was, but XP now running on another HDD, but it was WEIRD (how can any partitioning software report 3000Gb's worth of partitions on an 80Gb HDD, oh well, XP running now)
