Im still hunting for a solid psu for my new system and found this:

Customer Reviews Of Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 500W Power Supply - Retail

I noticed that the most recent reviews are TERRIBLE and the older ones are 5 eggs and a few 4 eggs. I'm not sure what to think. Does anyone have any personal experience with this psu? Any help or advice would be great.

    thx

I thought those were good PSU's, after reading those revies though i wouldent buy it, maybe there just doig something wrong, but still, i wouldent want to risk the life of my rig, maybe they have slightly changed the psu and there may be somethign really wrong with them.

well u could get an ENERMAX-E565 (535WATTS) which is good from what ive heard, (B's got that too)
ive got an ANTEC NEO HE 500watt psu and this is surely a great psu. Really quiet and 456watts on the 12v rail, solid psu with 3% rail fluctuations and the rails hardly ever fluctuate but this may be a bit more pricy

Not bad, got 33A combined, i would normally think thats abit too low, i would always get a PSU with over 35A combined, but still should do good, but i havent heard of the name before :\

your making a BIG mistake. dont get that AS XCLIO are on the bad list. PLUS for $50 YOU CANNOT GET A GOOD PSU. The reviews mean nothing, read a proper review if ur lucky to find one coz thos psu's arent good enough to make it to a review coz its not worth it.

    MTBF 80,000 hrs at 80% load, 25 °C ambient<<<< CRAP CRAP NORMALLY GOOD PSU's DO 80,000hours at 100% at 50 °C

    DONT GET IT

And your reasons for not getting it are....?

My reason is because its got no reviews and is an unknown brand, yours?

well 2 of them u listed
look on different sites and all of them have them under highly unrecommended. i had a link but cant find it coz ive got about 100 bookmarks.

    $50 (about £28) for a 500watt psu, good companies sell 500watt psus for at least £50 ($100)

There ya go Warmonger41, it seems like the psu will not be very good, but then again, you system aint one of the most power hungry things in the world, so i wouldent be surprised if it were ok for that, but future upgradability is right outa the window with it.

XClio rebadges Channelwell Technology, just like Antec does for some of their units. The Antec SmartPower are their lower-quality units. Not the worst, but certainly nowhere near where they should be. The XClio's are comparable to the TruePower units. 33A on the 12V will be fine, unless you're running Quad SLI or more than 1 8800GTX.

im pretty sure i read somewhere that they are unrecommended. if i find it i'll get back. Anyway he should be looking at a psu like an enermax, or seasonic or sumthing 600watts, its better for the future

Yes, thats exatly what i said, but 600w aint better for the future, 800 + is better for the future, these seasonic 1000w psu's are deffenitly quire future proof i reakon. But if what BigB said about the Xclio PSU's is true, which i rekon it is as BigB wouldent post it if it wasent true, those PSU's are preety good.

From what I've gathered from a few sources on other forums, yeah, XClio's are basically the same guts as what Antec uses in their PSU's...the good ones, like the TruePower.

So who actually makes the guts of the PSU for antec if Xclio uses the same?

Channelwell Technology. Most all power supplies are not made by that company. FSP, Seasonic, Enermax, and PC Power & Cooling all put out power supplies they make themselves. I swiped a list and put it in the PSU sticky. Just keep in mind it's not an end-all, be-all list. OCZ used to use Topower, but are now using FSP units with the GameXtreme units. Raidmax units are a mixed bag. From what I can gather, the ones in their cases, are like most units included in cases, utter garbage. However, the ones that are sold by themselves are decent. Ultra is another good example. Their first-gen X-Connects were fine, but then they switched to a different unit and that's when the problems started. I believe they switched back to the Wintech units they were rebadging for the X2's, but if you see a lot of discrepencies over the X-Connect quality, that's why.

I'm not entirely sure, but what I do see indicates a Topower, much like Tagan and older OCZ units.
