trying to re-use as many parts from my old setup as possible. my current power supply is an Antec True480: Antec.com - TruePower Series question is, will this be good enough if i plan to run an intel core 2 duo processor, and an invidia geforce 8800 card with my new setup? if not, can anyone recommend a good power supply?
I dont think so, from what i have seen a 1000W powersupply may be needed, around this forum i have seen some of the members reccommending 1000W power supply for builds with these GPU's in, i would reccommend buying a new PSU. Check ones form seasonic, pc power and cooling. I would reccommend a 1000W power supply too because there not only sure to be able to power your hardware, they should last through some future upgades too. Newegg.com - PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR 1000W Continuous @ 50°C Power Supply - Retail Newegg.com - ENERMAX GALAXY EGA1000EWL 1000W Power Supply - Retail Newegg.com - Thermaltake Toughpower 850W W0131RU – NVIDIA QUAD-SLI APPROVED, FOUR +12V RAIL READY - Retail
well if you dont care about the psu being future proof, then a 550watt minimum should do the job if you're NOT going to run SLI. PC P&C, TAGAN, SEASONIC, ENERMAX will do the job. I wouldnt really suggest the hiper type R (No offence Willz) even though its 580watts because its only got 360watts (30 amps) on the 12v rails, my antec neo he has got combined of 38amps ans 456watts which would be better becoz nowadays the graphics cards and CPU's, hard drives use mainly the 12v rail so thats the most important.
No the Type-R has 38a (18 + 20 combined), anywere that says otherwise is wrong, but yea it wouldent do the job for his system, but i never reccommended it..... I wouldent get the antec neo for a rig that he would build, sure it might be good, but still, the reccommended for an 8800GTX is 450w but i wouldent use 450 or 500w, for a system like that, 800 - 1000W from a good brand. And from what i see about the antec neo he 500w, its got triple 12v rails each @ 17a, so thats 51a combined so i dunno were your sources are from :s
No willz, the combined of the type r is 30 (its never 18+20=38) becuase the power cannot be 100% efficient. If u take it by your calculations, my neo he is 17*3 12v rails which is 51 but the combined is actually 38amps u have 360watts on your 12v so 360/30 is 12v or 12v*30amps is 360watts
Look man, i know its not 100% efficient, but its what it says on the specs, and thats what people will look at, it says 18a + 20 a, so its 38a.
im not arguing or anything willz, its just what it really is. +12V 1 & +12V 2 < 360 W check it out on hiper's site if u want
yes it does but the COMBINED (which means the rails both put together at the same time can only deliver 30amps *12 + 360watts) do u get it now. if not then just ask B and he'll explain it.
the combined is 38, i can add up you know.... Anyway, rating of my psu aint relivent to me now, they were at first, i read reviews, i bought this PSU based upon revies, and a damnd good buy it was, i dont care what anyone says, this PSU i have is bloody awsome, delivers plenty of powers, i power heaps of stuff off my pc and still its going strong, takes anythign i throw at it... litrally.
ive tried but u dont get what im trying to say (or i cant expalin as well) but anywayz nothing to worry bout.
as i said in the earlier post.... I know when and when not to reccommend my PSU, i wont be reccommending it again as most people who come to this forum for new builds are building high power pc's that require much better PSU's that you or i have.
im not trying to tak ethe piss or anything, i was just telling him about it. i apologize if ur offended which i think u are and i didnt mean to in any way. if u want, u can ask Big b bout the rails coz he obviously know a lot more than me. i was just trying to help so forget about anything that happened and pretend nothing happened ok. U can recommend your Psu and i think its great becoz it can handle a lot of systems that dont have beefy gfx cards and im not stopping u from doing so. so lets just 4get bout it.
well thats what i call beefy. anyway lets just 4get bout all of this and i think we went a bit of-topic and our post shouldnt be here. MODS should delete these posts coz they're jus taking up space and are compltely off topic
Yeah, that will work. You might consider the OCZ GameXtreme or FSP Epsilon units that Newegg has. You can get a 700W for about the same price Frozen CPU is asking for that 600W. Additionally, the OCZ units have some rebate deals going on, which put their 600W GameXtreme at around $38-40 cheaper than that Thermaltake unit.
