New Monitor

I currently have a BenQ FP91E. It is a 1280x1024 native monitor with something like a 8ms response time or something like that.

I'd like to upgrade to a new monitor with say a 1600x1200 resolution or even higher if you think my pc can handle it (check out sig) since I'm getting a bit bored of 1280x1024 in games and my new GPU (8800 GTS Superclocked) should be able to handle a resolutions of a much higher ammount.

I've got maybe £300-£350 to spend, although I don't want to buy shit so if that isn't enough then please go a bit higher if necessary.

I'm using a DVI cable of course not VGA.

[EDIT] Almost forgot, please no smaller than a 19" monitor, am used to this BenQ now and not sure if I could go smaller.

Screens smaller than 19" can't go higher than 1280x1024 (there could be some exceptions).

To get the right screen format and resolution, I would suggest looking in this image. It gives you a quick overview of the resolutions, aspect ratio and you can compare the format of the screen (square, widescreen etc.) between resolutions. Remember that you can downscale a resolution (a screen with a maximum of 1600x1200 can use 1280x1024 or 1280x960 (aspect ratio independent). But not in the other way (a screen of 1280x1024 can't reach 1600x1200). The screens in square format don't seem to get higher than 1280x1024. Screens that provide higher resolutions only have widescreen format.

I thought 1600x1200 and 2048x1536 were 4:3 ratios so they are square formats? My dad has a 20" square monitor that has a 1600x1200 resolution at work. Can't remember what it's called though.

I knew that you can't go past your native resolution hence why I'm looking to buy a new monitor because my current 19" is 1280x1024.
