Hi, I upgraded my motherboard and CPU and now during windows XP startup it shows the normal XP logo and about 10 seconds into loading (and occasional irregular pauses) it shows a TECHNICAL (something) blue screen of death and a lot of words but it resets immediately after so i dont have time to read it. safe mode wont work and "Boot from Last Knwon..." wont work either. safe mode just resets the pc, i didnt notice a blue screen Any help much appreciated. Thank you ps, I would like to avoid a format if possible pps, I don't know if this is relivent but normally the WindowsXP startup logo fades IN when it first appears, but now it just popps on.. doesnt fade in, just appears. is this significant?
After replacing the motherboard, you'll have to reinstall the OS. In this case XP. You won't need to format the drive.
For Dwarfer, That is you have to write new values to the registry. Installing OS will do that. Initially you have the old min board values and it is not compatible with new one. For RHochstenbach, What you mean this. You have to format the system partition at all. Full or a quick, it doesn't matter.
You don't need to format the drive: the Windows folder will be deleted first and then the new XP will be installed. You'll get better performance if the disk is formatted (and it is highly recommended to do so, unless you need the files on the disk).
Same thing is happened. But I think the best way is that formating. When you delete the Widows folder, how about the Program Files. They are not functioning further more. By the way could you please tell me how you are going to delete the Windows folder.
Is this a new Motherboard and CPU ? If so you should of got a setup disk for that motherboard. You will have to install all the drivers for THAT MotherBoard.
