Hi, I have another problem with my pooter

No matter how idle the pc is the hard drive is always 'clicking', not heavily but enough to make a sane person crazy, it does it ONCE PER SECOND, like it's reading so many KB, its not quiet its more like a tick. ive tried disabling the network to make sure it's not downloading anything but it still insists on 'ticking', ive had the pc as idle as possible... still ticks and nothing i can do

any help appreciated.
thank you v much for your time

Are you running Vista? If yes, this is caused by the automatic defrag of the harddisk. To turn this off, go to Computer, rightclick on the C partition and click on Properties. Go to the tab Tools, and click on Defragment. Uncheck the Schedule feature, and then click on OK on both screens. Repeat this step with all other partitions.

it also did it in xp, i disabled the auto-defrag from this norton tool, yet it still insisted on 'clicking' im beginning to believe its a hard fault somewhere
