Advice on my Sexy Setup

maybe a little beefer PSU a like a corsair 750TX something in that range anyway
do you plan on going dual GFX in the future?

I would love to have the spending money for that build lmao. I was gonna say ohhh no, not vista till I saw 8 bloody GB of ram lmao.

yeah lol, some people might say it's an overkill but i have run vista on 8GB before and it runs like a beauty :)

after a quick look,

that PSU has dual 12v rails (which is good) but, as you know, i prefer Antec

if you want future upgrades or you just want to take the p1ss out of everyone, you could consider the Antec TP Quattro 1000W

BTW: the PSU i suggested actually has 4 12V rails, the Antec also has a 5 year warranty, but i can't find how long the eXtreme has, i'm not saying the PSU you' picked is bad, just get the best PSU you can afford

that mobo actually supports upto 3 GPUs & it already has onboard 7.1 sound, so, if you want to save some money you can not get a sound card, because, onboard 7.1 is good enough most of the time, but, obviously it's not better than the sound board you've chosen

why Vista ?

BTW

A better place to save money would be to get a 680i or p35 chipset motherboard that comes with a pre-flashed BIOS.

Nah i think i will stick with the psu i chose becuase i honestly wont need more then 650watts so waste of money

If you already have a p35 mobo why do you need to upgrade it? It's still one of the top performers. The only difference you would see with a 680i and 780i chipset board would be the three way SLI. Other than that they are pretty much the same. Might as well save some money and get the board that fits best lol.

I'm with gazaway on this one. If you're not using SLI, then why are you dropping that sort of cash on an SLI motherboard? I can't recall the performance difference between the 780i and P35, but if there is one, as competitive as chipsets are, you'll only notice a smidge in benchmarks. Again, no SLI and you want a 780i board? Your money, but it makes no sense to me.

CoolerMaster seems okay, but they haven't established themselves as a definite brand for power supplies. I don't think you'll run into issues, but it wouldn't hurt to consider a Corsair, Thermaltake, Antec, etc. that do have a proven track record. I'm not sure where CM stand right now.

Wattage does not make a difference, quality does. I'm not saying you should drop the cash on a 1000W unit, but I would shop around. I wouldn't avoid CoolerMaster per say, but I would look around and read some reviews at [H]ard|OCP, jonnyguru, PC Perspective, Anandtech, or Hardware Secrets.

Those sites I mention because of their testing methodology. Turning on and not blowing up/frying something isn't quite good enough. It's a start, but not something that can establish true performance.

I understand where your coming from but the thing is I'm a sucker when it comes to new stuff, i want the latest thing, i have the money so why not spend it on a new product. But anyways I'm now thinking of going to X48 instead of getting a 780i board and also might wait a while until the new 9800GT or wot ever its going to be called comes out and get that instead of 8800GT.

i would not get a x-fi extreme gamer with vista. about half the people i know who have that, including myself, have had it work for a few months, and then slowly become unbearable to listen to, and really staticy for no reason. any other x-fi card works great, just not the xtreme gamer

hmmm really? this is the first time that i have heard bad news about the Xtreme card :(

but thanks for the warning

anyone else got bad experience with the Xtreme??????

I thought all sound was decoded using software in Vista now? Thought the days of needing sound cards were over, other than analog to digital?
