My Laptop (HP dv2000 Pavilion, cto notebook : centrino duo, nvidia graphics driver) had vista on it and the nvidia driver crashed several times untill it started giving BIOS error (one long beep followed by two short ones) which means that my graphics driver is causing problems) Googling on the issue suggested that HP's nvidia driver for vista is not good and results in frying up of the inbuild graphics driver. Now, it boots up only once in every 20 tries, so I prefer to keep it on all the time. What is the best way to make it last as long as possible. 1. Standby and Hibernate do not work. 2. I wonder if i can shut down hard-disks and/OR CPU without shutting down the monitor!! Please suggest some the best thing!! Thanks in advance!!
I don't think you can shutdown HD etc without the monitor turning off. Plus it doesn't look like a graphics driver issue, more like the graphics card is on its way out. Would suggest contacting HP if still under warranty.
Yups............ it's the card that's kinda fried up, since its integrated in the motherboard and my warranty period is over, HP will charge me 300 bucks (I would rather buy a new one for some 250 extra !!) anyways...... I have set the option to shut down HD when computer is not used for half hour and it has not caused problems as yet, and I have told it to "DO nothing when i shut the lid" but i see that the monitor goes blank when i shut the lid, and becomes active when I open it, is it kinda "blank" screensaver? Thanks for replying mayank
