No picture

Well....up to about 5 minutes ago my monitor was working fine. Then i unplugged my monitor cable on the back because it was tightly wound around a few other cables. Then when i plugged it back in the picture wouldn't come up. So i restarted my computer....the picture showed up until windows finished loading but cut out again when the login screen should show up. I have a Samsung Syncmaster 19" CRT, XFX GeForce 7900 GTX and running Winodws XP Pro x64. Any ideas?
 
I have now tried 2 things: 1) I started it in safe mode and unistalled the video card driver....didnt help (but at least i got a picture in safe-mode). 2) I cleared the CMOS....now i face a new problem, windows never leaves the loading screen (now it won't load at all). Now what shall i do? P.S. it still starts in safe-mode.
 
I've tried starting it from "Last Known Good Configuration" on the safe-mode screen...but now ill try another restore and let you know how it goes.
 
LOL!! System restore...no good. Still won't load windows. I think im going to have to reformat my hdd. All because i unplugged my monitor while windows was on. If nothing else does, this shows how crap Windows is :P .
 
Does it always loose the image just before windows starts?

The first thing I thought of was a dodgy cable but if it happens at the same time every time you try to boot up then it obviously isnt the cable.
 
Not the cable...it starts in safe-mode. And yes, a normal boot it always goes black. Anyways, i reformatted and now it works. I still find it hilarious the such a simple thing as unplugging my monitor while windows was up lead me to having to reformat my computer. Also, i would be using Linux if i could only figure out how to get 3d support so i can play games.
 
Last known good didnt do a thing huh? Did you switch ports on the video card when you disconnected the port? If not, go into safe mode and open up the nvidia control panel. Reset defaults and restart. If this doesnt work, uninstall the video driver and the monitor driver together and reboot.

well from my expeirence most thing just work in linux, give it a go (you can always dual boot XP with any linux on 1 HDD

thats why i said most thing just work in linux, a broadband modem requires driver and configuration (unlike a router)[ot]stick that in your pipe, and smoke it, LOL[/ot]
