I always use my laptop on a hard surface so that it has enough space for the airflow. and the cooling vent is not under the laptop like some laptops do. I have seen my wife's laptop (Sony Vaio) and I rarely hear any fan soung although she uses her laptop more! Mine is a DELL.

It turns out it was a driver issue. I had to install the relevant drivers from the device manager for each of these video cards independently rather than using the drivers cd that came with the video card.

I figured out the problem. There was a setting in the BIOS that I had to change. Machine - emachines T5216 Motherboard : Mickelson Trail Motherboard BIOS --> Power --> some CPI suspend state --> The default setting is S3 state. Change this to S1 state. Thanks.

Yes. I can. After I enter windows and I start working on something, it just boots itself. I even left the system at login screen without logging in and I have seen it reboot sometimes.

Well, I have no problem logging in. The problem a couple of minutes after I log in. Anyway, IDE is the only thing that is connected right now. I have disconnected the CD-ROM and the floppy too. The wierd thing is it does this 2 out of 3 times.
