Why not? It could well be that the circuit breaker trip could have damaged the PSU and although it may appear to look ok is in fact not supplying the correct voltage that is needed.

Well to my mind by the time you have tried to solder obscure wiring from an SD reader to two cards, if such a thing can be done which I doubt, then you could have put two individual cards in to transfer the data. Sorry if this sounds negative.
