Well my 2 cents is that it is not a software/driver issue as they would all be playing up. I still think it is an actual broken (physically) port.
Do you have a multimeter?
Its a laptop - it's a classic case for a damaged port - i have one that got a usb stick knocked while inserted that bent the pins inside, does it work when you force it up or down? Does the port look different or damaged compared to others?
We used to do that - its even better when you get a ghost server up and running to do the whole lab at once:)
Anyway did you run all the ghost preparation utilities before the clone?
Remember to script the new machine names too
HA!
The exact same reason I never use seagate anymore - i got so frustrated with their RMA process I just gave up and bought a new one.
Make sure its in a velostat bag or they'll probably say it got a static shock from the packaging.
Best of luck!
Hehe, fair enough (you can pm me a pic if you like - i work primarily in the fuel industry now so am most unlikely to be interested in the details of it)
But if it really is that important you need to get it to an electrical engineer to give it the all clear.
It wont short - as an LED is a light emitting DIODE - A diode is a one-way only device so if you put it in the wrong way it simply wont light as the cicuit is not complete. Get the anode and cathode the right way and you'll be laughing - diagram here...
At work to remove shellac and rust from solder points before I rework/repair we use a glass fibre brushes or sometimes brass bristle brushes (much softer) to clean up.
Does it work as it is? If it does I'd be hesitant to clean further in case you inadvertently damage something else.
If you...
With a multimeter on continuity resistance test and see if there is a break between the headphone style jack and the solder point on the motherboard - possible I suppose if you have been fiddling with it a lot although i've never seen it happen with all my years fixing machines.
Sometimes this...
There should be an internal connector that joins your sound card (onboard or otherwise) to your graphics card in order to send sound down the HDMI cable - Dell however are as always a law unto themselves so i'd make sure that they have done this for you!
There should be blueray decoding...
Pimp mate you need to read Amazon.com: A Short History of Nearly Everything: Bill Bryson: Books
(I listened to it unabridged on audio book) He has a whole chapter on this and explains it in a very emotive and descriptive way - Definitely worth a look mate!
Slightly off topic I think that none of you should have to be buying parts or working on your stock Xbox's at all - I thought that M$ said they would fix all RROD's no matter what age or how many times it has changed hands? Power to the people!
You've tried the mute switch if there is one on the headphone lead then?
Has the mic ever worked or is this a problem from the start? Can you try the headset on another computer?
Yeah - custom install or advanced - and just tell it not to remove any other versions - I do it all the time for people who are upgrading to 2007 and want to keep 2003 pro parts.
It automatically installs to a different dir anyway depending on version eg. office10 office11 etc etc
