Recover Data from a Unbootable corrupt 2nd Harddrive

Check to see if there's an option to set the partition in Disk Manager as active and see if that works (Right click in white/blue area to right of HDD in list at bottom of Disk Managemet window)... With your fresh installation of Windows, it won't have any knowledge of the corrupt drive ever...

    New PC auto-restarts??

Hello Zac, Heat related issues cause shutdowns rather than restarts, so don't worry about an overheating issue. Restarts without warning can be caused by bad memory. Insufficient power causes crashes vastly more often than restarts so we shouldn't worry about power for now. We could also...

    hardware tamper detection

The only way around it I can think of is... Drown it, and never buy an IBM again... On a more serious note, some PC manufacturers are very stubborn when it comes to modifying what they've sold you. For example, a new bios could possibly be a modded bios with overclocking features, and...

    System Failure (restart)

I might be missing something, but what exactly have you built? (Please list components and their architecture format etc.) When do you get the error? Are there any error codes? Also, you definite mean restart rather than shutdown right? Thanks, Mike

    Problems after hardware upgrade

Thanks Karinislove, but failsafe defaults on my board starve my RAM of voltage. That's what I had to adjust to make my system stable again. I have a question though - My broat doesn't increase voltage by increments of 0.05v, it increases by 0.10v. If my RAM requires 1.75v would 1.8v slowly...

Duo 2 core Vs single core??

If you do word processing, listen to music, or watch films whilst converting/ripping music and video then dual core would be the way to go... The times you can rely on mhz is when you're looking at a particular SERIES of processors (For example, the Athlon 64 range from 3000+ to 4000+, the...

    cpu help

I understood exactly what you meant. You haven't tried the ATX reset I mentioned yet have you? Try it, about 25% of problems like yours are solved where I work by a simple ATX reset. Mike

Duo 2 core Vs single core??

It improves performance as far as multitasking is concerned, but don't expect any ultimate performance boost in the time it loads up programs. It's hard to rely on ghz for how well something will perform. For example, an AMD A64 3700+ at 2.2ghz outperforms a 3.2ghz P4 Prescott. It's not about...

Never give up lads, lets get this sorted. ATX reset been mentioned yet? Disconnect power, hold power button in for 25 seconds, reconnect power, and boot. Try it, it just might work.

Is your front panel connected properly? Refer to your mobo manual and make sure you've got it connected to the right pins etc. but I'm probably wrong if it boots up fine with your 2.66 ... This is a tough one, I'll think about it in-between calls and see if I can come up with something. Mike

Pre-release Vista copy coming my way

It doesn't apply to part timers like you Aaron :P There were forms handed out and basically we get an intensive Vista training course then we start training people in the workplace. Who knows man, I might end up training you :P

    Problems after hardware upgrade

I do have a DFI board actually :P Easy to miss though. Well all I had to do was raise the RAM voltage and it became stable. Reccommended is 1.75 and I had it at 1.60 so it's just something I missed. As for the GPU fan, well I had my radiators on full blast and the room was pretty hot... Not...

It might be worth buying a Hiper 580w Type-R (about 50 quid from Ebuyer). My old Sansun PSU was 500w "True Power" but you can have as many watts as you want, if you don't have enough amps then there's your problem. However, a 650w PSU might cut it, just make sure it isn't a cheap tack one. Mike

Pre-release Vista copy coming my way

    Q. Can I turn TurboCache off? Because TurboCache is integral to the Quadro NVS 285 GPU, it can not be turned off. I'm assuming it applies to all GPU cores From the NVIDIA website. Sorry pal :/

    Problems after hardware upgrade

RAM timings at the advertised rate were causing my system to become unstable it seems... Disappointed with it because this RAM isn't cheap and is meant to run well. It's not like my mobo is incapable of handling it either. I might as well have just gone and bought some value RAM. Cheers for...

    Problems after hardware upgrade

Hey all, I recently upgraded the PSU and memory on my rig, and ever since I upgraded, my GPU (7900GTX) fan has been going mental even in 2D mode and is running at 57 celcius when idle. Once I left my PC on overnight And when I came back to it I moved the mouse to activate the display but...
