Why don't you try a different video card, It sounds like that one is getting hot for some reason.. Will it do this with a stock card or lower end...
Most freezing problems come from the video card, but it could be the ram as well. Try removing the ram around, and try a different video card.
What make and model is it ? If you are using xp , then it might just set them up for you. Just make sure you have NEW batteries..
