20-Pin power worth a shot without new PSU?

either that, or what I see to be more likely, the power consumption starting to go down. We aren't going to start getting computers that use a kilowatt of electricity. The mobile processors will find their way into desktops and power usage will go down... I think.

Thats pretty interesting to think about... how amazing will graphics be when it takes 200+ Watts to power the cards?? sheesh

Anyway, do you guys think that I should try the 400W even though EPoX said to use minimum 450? In the manual it says min 350, but my support email said 450. 100% sure that it won't damage anything or start a fire if it isn't enough power?

still both numbers are biased, they dont expect a real 450W and you wont get 400W out of that all PSUs don't live up fully to their performance in alot of situations, on full load It'll probably give you around 250-300W. I bet they're expecting the same numbers.

i'd stay with the 400W until it dies or system starts getting power problems, I mean its a bit of a risk, but It's your choice

I recommend you use the 400. I see no more risk in using it as opposed to using the same PSU, except with higher amperages. I mean, a PSU upgrade is always a good thing but you'll be fine.

Very good post B. I had taken a look at it a while ago but hadn't read it all the way through.

It's just one of those things that's become much more important in the past year or so. It really wasn't a big deal like it is now. I know the DFI nForce boards are pretty anal about having a 24-pin plug, but I wouldn't recommend skimping on that for any motherboard that has the 24-pin connector.

well, the only reason I have an adapter is that when I got my motherboard and PSU I didn't know they had incompatable plugs.
