my friend has gta3, so I'll try playiong with that. By rebooting the system, I always get the same scores each and every time, so that problem's solved. I played MOHAA with everything maxed at 1024x768x32 and it works. It has minor glitches but I can live with it. I only have to reboot everytime I wanna play.
Well now it seems I'm stuck at 9k. I had put everything on performance to see what would happen and the score actually dropped to 8k. No matter what I do, I can't get past 9030 or so. I really don'T know why I had 9900 at one point, I'll have to look that up. I've read that the 9600 series suffers a bit at dx8 games but that it performs well in dx9, I guess we'll see about that. I'm keeping the card btw, and will upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram. It'll cost me a fraction of the price since I'm selling what I have now.
Ive finally reached 5000, infact 5100. That was with P4a 2ghz at 2.4ghz, 640mbs pc100 at 120 and the mx420 clock from 250/166 core/mem at 330/210. Ive since also managed to get another 5mhz out of the fsb, making my 2ghz P4a run at 2.5ghz, and my pc100 at 125. Im quite pleased, thats 2.5ghz 500mhz bus from a 2ghz 400mhz bus with standard hsf and pc100! I need some pc166.... no I need a springdale and some corsair xms pc4000! Im gonna give it whirl with the new clock speed. Its strange, I normally couldnt get past 120 and still be stable, it used to struggle to pass POST at 125fsb, now Ive run every benchmarker and burning in program ive got and it runs a bloody dream. Even my pc100 is transfering at 800mbs. ddr 2100 is only about 1100. normal pc100 is summit like 450-500. Sandra says its summit like 400mbs but thats with a 1ghz duron and p3. I need some second hand pc133 at least though, then I might try the cpu vcore mod so I can change my pci ratios. I take it 41.25/82.5 pci/agp is high
Be careful not to go above 1.75 if you want to keep that CPU more than 6mo or so. I've read about people having dead P4's because of extreme overvolting, and it looks like 1.75V is the highest you want to go before really risking it big time. Plus, a 25% OC is nothing to balk at. If you want to upgrade anything for a better 3Dmark, look into a video card instead, as that's a bigger bottleneck than the RAM when it comes to gaming. Springdale...Asus, Abit, AOpen, and Epox Springdale boards all have some type of PAT umph activated with a specific BIOS (and any subsequent ones thereafter). Yeah, the 41.25MHz on the PCI bus is getting up where you may start to lose some PCI devices after awhile.
I got 13189 when oced@175*11 I ran Prime95 for an hour and a half without errors so I'm going up to 10*185
Ive got the vcore at 1.7 at the momemt, I am gonna start dropping it to see how low I can get it to run at. I just give loads of juice for the overclock. I have just finished about 12-13 hours of Prime 95, the core temp was at 45c when I finished, and the board 34c. The board temp is alot higher than normal, I usually get about 23c at 2.4ghz. cpu is normal, even at stock it idles at 40c so.... Ive become a true beleiver of burning in though. When I first got the comp it just would not go past 110 fsb, no matter what. I was gutted! I ran it at 110 for a while then I managed 115, then 120 and now 125. Cant wait till it lets me hit 130! Though its struggling to load windows even at 126.Still passes post at 133 though, ive not tried any higher yet.
Just made 127, still stable. I ran prime 95 for 2hours fine. My pc100 is still on the fastest mem timings too. I cant get 5000 again though I get artifacts a few mhz above how I have it clocked at now..... if I put a celly heatsink on the gpu and some sinks on the ram does anyone think it will lose the artifacts at the slightly higher speeds and allow me to carry on overclocking it? RAM cooling can't help the IC's go past a certain speed w/o stuff like artifacting. It will help keep it cooler, but that in no way makes it easier to OC. The GPU is a different story. Voltage mods on the RAM may help, but then you'll have to remember that the extra voltage adds heat. It may help gain a few extra MHz, but for the work done, I think a Vmod at that point is pretty moot.
Well I ran it in single channel and I only lose 100 pts doing so so I'll stay like that. I was able to run both 3dmark01 and 03 @195*11. I got 13464 and 4059. I'm using the omega drivers which sacrifice performance for quality. I did see a quality difference, not big but big enough for me to stick with them. Next step will be to raise the multiplier as much as I can and of course, Prime95. Higher voltage, again, seems useless for me as it doesn'T make any difference whatsoever.
There's that point with all CPU. Going to more extreme measures might help a little bit, but most likely, not enough to really make it worthwhile.
Yep! I got another 100mhz out of my cpu, ive put a celeron hsf on my mx420 allowing me to clock it 345. With the retail sink on it I could go to 330. Ram stays at 210 from 166........ And it still doesnt guarantee 5000 points in 3d mark 2001. At 2.4ghz and 330/210 I get 4600-4800 max = 5100 At 2.5 ghz and 345/210 I get 4600-4800 max so far 4800! Im gonna have a go of some games and render some pics and animation later and see if I notice any difference there.
Yeah I thought the score would jump more but it seems there is a point where no matter what you do, it won't go much higher. I've read an article at Hardocp showing that 200FSB doesn'T necessarily give you bigger performance if you don'T have a good speed. ( I don't have the link since I'm having problems with the hardocp's website right now). I'm pretty much remaining in the 13600-13700 area. Highest I could go is beyond 13800. Timings are 8-3-3-3, I haven't played with them yet.
I know. The max difference I've seen is 300 in 3dmark01 and absolutely nothing in 3dmark03. Actually 3dMark03 doesn'T seem to care about what cpu you have (up to a certain extent). My score hardly moved from a 2000+ (FSB133) to a Barton (FSB200). I did see an improvement in 3dmark01 (at least 1000 points)
Actually Ive just scored a stompin' 6200!! There were a few artifacts. Im a bit annoyed cos I can only score 5450 without the artifacts. An extra 300 points as a result of the extra overclock of 100mhz on the cpu and 15mhz on the gpu core. I couldnt beleive my eyes when I saw 6215 points! Last week I was desperate for 5000! If I had ddr ram I bet I could get this thing to equal an ati 8500s score!
Unlikely. The 8500's DirectX 8.1 would come into play and help you big time. Granted, it'd still be somewhat of a bottleneck, but nothing like you have now. As for 3DMark 03, the way it stands now, it's not a trustworthy benchmark, and should be taken with a grain of salt. I'd put more stock in how it performs in Half-Life 2 and Doom III.
Im not into 3d mark 2003 myself. Thats why I stuck with 2001. Besides, the higher the score the more acurate it will, or the more accurate the comparisons of 2 or more cards will. Thats how my mathematical logic screams out anyway!
It seems I'm stuck at 515/342. Beyond that there's too much artifacts. Actually I see minor artifacts in game 4 (3dmark01) but I can live with that. the 9600 pro's memory is supposed to be rated at 350mhz but I just can't get there. my score varies from 13250 to 13500. I thought changing utilities would change something but no it doesn'T. Rage3d overclocks as good as radclocker. I'm satisfied with what I got anyway, and that'S the important thing. I'd like to get that 14k though
