I've been offered around 500 quid for my pc by someone, (not including my X800Pro)

i was thinking of just getting rid of my completely, however for £500 i could quite easily get a mid range 64bit machine.. i've seen one: spec:
AMD 64Bit 3200+ (2.0Ghz)
512mb Ram
FX5500 128mb
160GB Sata / 150
DVD-Rom
XP Pro
480W Thermal Take
+ Case and prebuilt all for £525 including delivery..

Questions:
1. It's abit vague on website, but i presume its 757pin?
2. Obviously it would be cheaper to build myself so, do i need ECC or non-ECC ram?
3.there is a substantial difference in price between 757pin and 939pin, which is better and why the difference in price?
im not bothered about buying a 757pin 64bit, as long as they don't stop making 757pin chips..

The specs of the first one aren't too bad, but again, without knowing if it's a 754 or 939-pin setup, that's bad for you not knowing. The other thing that would be a deal-breaker is the GeForce FX 5500. If he's into gaming at all, this is probably not a good selection, especially considering what kind of grunt is backing the card up.

Your system looks pretty good, though, but if you can swing it, you might want to see about a GeForce 6800, since you can get them for under $300 in the US quite easily.

hmm it would have to be a low range 6800, and i checked the first spec, its 757pin, whats the big difference?

It's not 757, it's 754.

The difference is it is not dual-channel capable. Also, the S939 is the socket of the future, the one they'll build nevwer cpu on.

EDIT: ECC memory is required for S940 or opterons.

The case looks shit and horrible, but i've used one before, and they are relatively solid and quiet. The DVD-Rom and floppy are from a spare machine. i skimped on the case / floppy and optical drives so allow me to afford the 6800GT.

Should be a nice system :)
