7600gt and my psu

I am thinking about upgrading my video card soon and my decision has come down to the 7600gt and the 7900gs. It was good luck that my friend just ordered a pc from newegg and got the 7600gt.

I borrowed it from him and tried it out on my comp. It ran nicely and played GRAW suprisingly well. So my question is, since my psu worked with the 7600gt for that little bit of time does this mean it will always work with it??

Im sry that I can't tell you what psu I have, all I know is that its a works power psu.

Obviously the gs is a better preforming card but if I can stick with my current psu with the gt then thats 1 more point to it.
 
donkey what are you talking about, seriously i got confused. anyways its the same board and core, only its just pushed a little more. That said they both use around 38w of power, which is low especially for a 7 series card. Its a good thing. OK so yeah really you should be ok
 
Ok swansen I think you are getting your gt's and gs's mixed up. I never tried the 7900gs in my comp. I just tried a 7600gt. So my question is, since I only tried out the 7600gt (for about 10 minutes) on my current psu, can I still be certain that my psu will always be able to run it. Or since it worked for ten minutes can I rest ez knowing my psu can handle it.

Im sry I dont know what my psu is. I look at it and learn nothing. All I know is that the brand is called "Works Power".

Hmm well we got the "make" figured out at least hehe. Does it have a label on it listing the specs, namely, the total wattage and the volts on each rail?
 
um warmonger man i said they both use about 38w, i'm not confused about anything. So that said you should be fine. They use rate around the same voltage maybe plus or minus 2 watts. So rate now i can't see why you would have any problems and i never said you tried a 7900. About the power supply, there isn't a sticker with a bunch of numbers on it or anything
 
Yes I think my I found the sticker on my psu. But I know nothing about what it means so maybe you can interpret it for me.

There are 3 tables:

The 1st one is torn off and very little info is given.

The 2nd one says DC output then below it, it reads 300W

The 3rd one says DC output then below it, it reads 360W

There is alot more info, I just dont know whats important and what it means.

I didnt try out the gs I tried out the gt. But I see my mistake, I said that you said that I used the 7900gs but I meant to say 7600gs. WOW thats confusing.
 
yes i have found that the 6200 uses 33 watts, so your looking gravy man. Like i said the 7600's are nice they don't use much power, are cheap, and do what they should real well. Wow ok that was my bad to. i'm sorry i definetly miss read some stuff about the 7600gs. OK but yeah the 7900's use a good deal of power, like alot, i'm going to take a shot but i'd say your power supply is in the mid 300's so i don't think it would handle a 7900. I read that a 350-400 watt power supply is recommended and it uses 120w. So thats a jump, and you probably have a 350w powersupply so i wouldn't advise getting the 7900 unless you get a new power supply. The reason being is that it would probably work fine until it was under a decent load for awhile and the power supply get really stressed and shuts down. That would most likely happen a decent amount of times.
 
Ahhh.. thx thats just the answer I was looking for. The 7600gt is looking better and better. I would get the 7900gs if I didnt have to get a new psu, but... idk, but w/e the case that helped me alot. thx everyone
