7900GS Question.

Alright, I upgraded my computer last week. I installed a new power supply, sound card, and my video card. I am not able to run things quite as good as I thought so I want to get rid of my bottleneck.

Doom3 I can run on high but not max.
Stalker I am near the bottom of the video setup
Ghost recon Advanced warfighter I am around the Middle of the video settings.

Is this just a case of crappy ram and not enough of it?
I have 1 gig of apacer 3200 (400) ddr2 ram that came with it originally.

The video card is an over clocked 7900GS made by foxconn.
Core clock is 560 mhz and memory clock is 1400. I am guessing I need more ram but I would like to know how much is a good matchup with this card. I am looking at getting 2 1gig sticks of ram to total 2 and sell my 2 512 sticks on ebay or whatever. (I couldnt find matching memory for what I have so I am just going to start over. There are some good deals on newegg right now.). I am a little dissapointed in the performance, I was expecting a little more.


My next question is can I maximize my video card with programs like rave (I am very unfamiliar with this) safely and easily. I doubt this will make a difference the way I am setup but would it be worth looking into if I had 2 gigs of faster ram?

Last question is off topic but I am running low of virtual memory in some programs. Should I up the initial paging memory allocated and how high should I raise it. My initial memory size is 1534MB. How much should I set aside?

With my X800XTPE I could run GRAW at maximum settings with stutter sometimes due to only having 1gb of ram, I dont see why you should not be able to run all the games on max, allthough I dont think you will be able to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at maximum though, 8800's seem to be needed for that atm.

You could try upgrading your ram, but try updating your video drivers to the latest, maybe even re install Windows because you should be getting better gameplay experience with your specs.
 
Yes, you should definitely be able to run doom3 on max settings. Try what willz suggested. If that doesn't work maybe the videocard is a dud and foxconn screwed it up.
 
Drivers can do a lot to improve performance too. Any Doom 3 game should be able to be run at at least 1280x1024, if not 1600x1200 (depending on the eye candy levels), especially with an overclocked card.
 
I noticed you didn't upgrade your CPU?

I understand that if your CPU isn't fast enough then the processing power of your graphics card will be wasted since the CPU can't keep up with it? Could be wrong though, remember reading that somewhere.

So maybe the graphics card and RAM are fine, just your CPU isn't up to par with your new components.
