Activating Norton Internet Security???

My friend who helped me build my pc, d/loaded the 14 day trial version of Norton Internet Security. Now I want to buy it, and it's asking for the 24 digit product key to activate it, which I don't have (it's supposed to be on my computer somewhere). Anyway he says ignore that & just buy it online. My concern is this - I know Norton can be a bit funny and I don't want to duplicate anything on my pc. Will it work ok if I just do that?

And I have another question. It costs more to buy it new than it does to upgrade from Norton Anit-virus. I uninstalled the Antivirus from my laptop after my previous subscription expired. Is there any way I can retrieve that product key & upgrade - at the cheaper price - on my pc?

I don't know whether you can retrieve a key from your laptop it just depends. You just buy the licence key for Norton online and use that to activate Norton. You don't need to intsall anything new unless you're upgrading to a newer version.
 
Also if you don't want to buy Norton as its a bit of a resource hog you should try AVG Anti Virus 7 Free Edition here. The free edition works very well for me and updates are free and available often. Or you can get the paid for version which has more advanced options than Free, but Free's worked fine for me.

I agree with Addis. NAV has been nothing but trouble for me, especially on networks with many clients. AVG is surprisingly good, and there's even a version that's free for home use! If I were you, Id' go with AVG. But if you were to purchase one, I'd go with Trend Micro, not Symmantic.

Cheers... One thing I heard about the smaller AV companies tho... as they don't have the resources of Norton & McAfee, they wait until viruses become known before updating, whereas Norton & McAfee actively seek out potential viruses etc. Anyone else heard about this?
Also... I've been using the free Trend Micro AV on my laptop, but you can't get the updates without buying it.
