amd cpu help anyone?

hi im building my own computer and have come across a hitch............processar, i think ill go for amd but i dont no the speeds i.e does 3000+ mean 3.0ghz because someone said it didnt and only means 2.2ghz which is shocking because id like one over 2.6ghz and mayve 64 bit i dunno can anyone give me guidence please?

3000+ is 3 ghz in association to intel cpus, but under its own classification its only 2 ghz

raw ghz isnt everything 3500+ perform better in cases than intels best 3.73ghz EE
 
measuring ghz for speed is totally wrong. If you're getting a new computer I'd get a motherboard and processor that are socket 939. It's AMD's newest socket that supports 64-bit, dual channel, and dual cored processors.

For the record, a 3000+ amd kills a 3.0ghz P4 gaming.

so wat processar are you recomending? im not poor but i cant splash loads of cash if you no what i mean any help will be greatfull!

Got a question which may sound stupid, but here goes anyway: I have an Athlon 64 3200+ system with a Socket 754(?). If I buy a mobo with a socket 939, can I still use this same processor or is there an AMD Athlon64 3200+ thats specifically designed for a S939 mobo? And what about the memory? Can my DDR 400's still be used in an S939 Mobo? Sorry, but I'm really cofused about this.

I thought as much. Oh well, guess I'll just stick with this baby for awhile... It's only 3 months old. Ouch. And thanks!
 
id just recommend a 3000+ in your case and you're fine, just make sure to get a venice or san diego core, because they're revised, hold more performance, and SSE3 support

you should be good off for a while with that cpu, my dad has a 3200 on 754 for a year and half, still runs apps fast as hell
