AMD too hot?

Matt

Oblivion Junky
My AMD Athlon 64 3500+ is running at around 55-58 degreesC when i stress it with virus checking and other stuff the get it to 100% usage.

This worries me as i did not mount the heatsink and this is hot for an AMD isnt it?

Fresh re-do of thermal paste? (if they put any on in the first place).

Any sugestions or comments.

yeah, it is a bit too near the maximum of 60 degrees
upgrade your cooling, just wack a big heatsink and a fan on your CPU

i love that simple aproach!!!

but when i first got my pc it ran at about 30degreesC which was good. But now it is running too hot. Why has this happened

[ot]LOL[/ot]

the fan may have slowed down (as fans do) unscrew the fan and replace it[ot]i remember overclocking my first 486, back then you had to make your own heatsink out of whatever you could find in the garage[/ot]

Edit: the fans RPM has probably reduced

If the fan allows for PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) then you can have your BIOS control the fan speed according to the temperature. That's one thing to check (probably Asus Q-Fan stuff).

Second thing to check is that the cooler is still properly installed. Some coolers, like the AMD stock cooler rely on the motherboard bracket being there already. Other's have a special mouting system with it's own back plate.

i have recently blown away all the dust with compressed air and i have speedfan so it cant be the fan rpm
