Another thing that pisses me off. Paranoid parents! I do pretty good in school and have always got decent-brilliant exam marks. My parents are soooo paranoid when they see me on MSN or even just playing a quick online game! One look at me not studying and its...
"JUST THING WILL THAT GAME DO YOU ANY GOOD IN THE LONG RUN? HUH?!!!"
or if i'm on msn
"WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TALK TO YOUR FRIENDS ONLINE? YOU WASTE HOURS ON THAT!"

However what they fail to realise is that i spend between 10-20% max of my time on the PC doing that. The other 80% is on the forums or reading articles and learning shit. They are so :swear: paranoid its untrue. What really is frustrating is they always see me the moment i come on or the moment i play a game. Then they think I've been on it for hours. But then they never believe me when i say i only spend 10 mins playing a game. Anyone have a similar problem? Oh aswell, whenever i try to take apart the PC, my dad starts sighing and thinking that I'm going to break it. 3 times he's said to me "don't you break that" and 3 times its booted up successfully. That proves a point.
 
Yeah. I have the same problem except only when my hoemwork isn't done. My mom takes my modem. pisses me off like no other.
 
I know your pain. Been there, done that. Just be glad your folks aren't as 1337 as my dad is, which sucks with his router and filtering software. I'd probably cuss more, but, it wouldn't get through. Hopefully, I'll be moving out soon...although it'll probably mean going to 56k for a few months...:(

I had to hand over all my gaming CDs the last quarter of my senior year because I was failing a class (and would've kept me from graduating). That wouldn't have been so bad, but the school let me know approximately 3 weeks before the semester ended. I pulled it off, but I don't know how.

If I have kids...I'll just make them give me their power supply from their computer if that's the problem. :D
 
Or if they don't become as 1337 as you Big B, you could just pull the jumper that shorts CMOS, not set to clear but literally take the jumper out. no MoBo boot! And it would make them frustrated as hell, thats the idea right? :waycool:
 
I'd probably make them give me the CPU too. :chk: You won't get far without one of those. ;)
 
Easy. Just take away the power plug. Easiest way to do it, just make sure they don't have spares.
 
I'd let them be on their computer all they want... except Internet access would be blocked to/from that MAC address, and their user profile would be set to read only :)
 
Yeah my parents are big on my gaming. They dont care that i spend my money on my computer but when i get home form soccer and football i go and start playing counter strike. They dont understand that i am good and i have been in Cal-im last year and that i am good and that it is ok to play cs. Ah i gess i will deal with it. They pay for my DSL, cell phone, car so i gess i will just listen to them. If they shut off my DSL i would get so pissed.
 
I had that gaming problem with my parents when I got my first computer, a 386. I loved to play Street Fighter 2. Surprisingly the CPU, at that time, came with a lock mechanisim, Just like a door lock. Insert the key in the CPU key hole and lock it.
Fortunately, I found a way to open it by using a safety pin. :D

Did IT today and boy was theory funny yet boring. The head was talking about RAM, not latencies or types but RAM. Teaching us like morons.
"RAM and ROM are found in the CPU." Duh. the CPU doesn't have that type of RAM in it. Hmmmmmmm. "What happens to the contents of RAM when the computer is switched off?" Had to stop myself laughing at the stuff she was saying. 01bolandn was also laughing at the stuff aswell.
 
hahahahahahahahahaha! ...thats kinda like my autocad class, when my teacher was explaining to us how a computer works, "what is a hard drive made up of?" someone shouts from the back of the room "YOUR MOM!"

then in 'Focus' or, business tech. we had an old fat lady that smelled of cabbage come lecture us on how a database works and why we use databases to find things...for 51 minutes. The whole time I stared at a .GIF of a camel walking. Then at the end I asked why not just use GOOGLE?!?!?! She started bashing on Google. Psh, n00b.
 
This is only the beginning. Imagine what it will be like when she tries to "simplify" more complex things like motherboards and CPUs. I can imagine her trying to tell the class that the CPU does all the "thinking" in the computer. Don't think she'll even bother explaining what the ALUs and L caches etc are. The other day she was telling us about different types of printer. I can understand she has to stick to the curriculum but jesus who doesn't know how an inkjet printer works?!!! Its in the name! Ninja since your 14 also whats IT like over there? Over here its all MS office stuff, our whole coursework involves us using MS office.
 
Wow. I must've had good teachers in college then. Didn't have much PC stuff in high school...(back when I was still a n00b), so there's not much to talk about there.
 
God how bad was that. Those lessons are so bad "RAM stands for RANDOM ACESS MEMORY" well now uve sed something i learned when i was nine i can laff.
 
Just don't get too full of yourself and do what I did: not study. Good way to fail your classes. Trust me.
 
It's not really IT here, it's a mandatory class enforced by the 'state of oregon' It's basically business tech. Pretty stupid. I could own my teacher so hard in an all out nerd knowledge about pc's and other nerdy stuff brawl. She thinks she's so cool watching our screens VIA her '1337' mac. Then controlling them, usually just turning them off if someone is playing games or lookin at pr0n. Psh. I can look at pr0n if I want to!
 
I actually don't mind doing theory. Other people are like "OH shit its theory" but we usually end up saying "oh, theory, not bad"
Before you say anything i just want to point out that anything can be better than making a friggin leaflet in publisher.
 
Yeah theory is much more interesting than practicals. u actually do about pcs where as in practicals we make pointless leaflets and posters and labels and blah blah + we rnt full of ourselves u just gotta b in our class to experience the bordom
