Ati and motherboard problems

Hi all ive recently upgraded my computer to the following
1gb ram
AMD 64 2.7 ghz 5000+ dual core
m2npv-vm
i have also added my old graphics card (ATI Radion x800xt pci-e)

I seem to have a problem installing my ati drivers with this motherboard. After installing the drivers my computer screen goes black after the windows loading screen. I have to go in to safe mode to start up mycomputer. I believe this maybe to the nvidia chipset built in to my motherboard. Anyone have a fix for this i must be able to use an ati card with my asus motherboard.

You will probably need to disable the on-board graphics chip.
I cannot tell you where in BIOS this is achieved, but it is in BIOS where it is done.

good luck...

Sounds more like the driver you're using for the card is causing problems. I'd make sure to have the latest Catalyst drivers (I think 7.1 just hit today) and give that a go. Secondly, yeah, make sure to disable the display in BIOS---consult your motherboard manual. My guess is that it's under Integrated Peripherals, but Asus BIOS layouts are a bit different than most companies.

Also, look for an option along the lines of "Init Display First" or something that you can toggle between PCIe and PCI (and maybe onboard) video.

It's nothing to do with an ATi video card and nVidia chipset. Those combinations have been run without issue for years now, so I *highly* doubt it's the problem here, so much as a few settings that need to be put in order.

After messing around with various settings ive found that even if i disable the inbuilt graphics and select the pci-e as the primary it stil doesnt work. Its a strange problem and one which i never seen before,

i think its a 350w it runs fine when i boot it in safe mode but when i boot normal it goes blank ive manged to get it working twice today with out messing with any settings but once i restart i get the same problem
