Ati driver help

I tried to roll back my ati drivers, and even though it said it worked, the 7.9 are still there. I've never had this fail before, so I was wondering if i can simply install 7.7 drivers or do I need to uninstall, then install 7.7?

When I change drivers I do this:

Save new drivers on desktop.
Uninstall old drivers (which requires a restart.)
Once back up I use a reg cleaner.
Then install new drivers (which restarts again.)
Using this process I have never had any problems.

You can't directly install 7.7, if 7.9 is there. Only the upgrade is the possible. So uninstall the 7.9 driver first and install the 7.7 drivers.
