Bad Psu?

Hey Folks it's been about 14 months since the build of my PC


Specs. are listed in the "My Computer" Drop down menu....
PSU is
OCZ PowerStream OCZ520ADJSLI ATX12V 2.01, BTX, EPS12V 520W Power Supply - Retail

I've confused with my problem...

Computer has been off for 12 hrs or so... I go to boot it up and it wont boot, Looking thru my window of my case i see my ATI MoBO flash red (lights behind board) my CPU fan spins a few times and my PSU LED light and fans spin a few times, this all stops and then repeats the process.

anyone know what the problem could be... :x:
I've been to the ABIT site and did the troubleshooting
-Change RAM sticks
- Removed Small silver battery and waited 10minutes before putting it back in


any other troubleshooting you Guru's adivse?

and if the PSU is bad which one would you recommend?
 
Try booting with a minimal configuration plugged in: motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, 1 stick of RAM, video card.
 
Still the same thing happens but this time after it happens a few times it just completely shuts down
 
I coulda sworn I replied, but I guess not. :P

Anyway, just to make sure the CPU isn't causing trouble, I'd remove the heatsink, clean it and the CPU heatspreader off with isopropyl alcohol, and then apply a new, thin layer of thermal paste.

Be a good upgrade from my current 3700+?

and with getting that should I consider a new PSU? If so what would you suggest?

I was looking at this, and was hoping a trained eye would look it over and see if it would be able to support the NEw CPU and all of my current hardware as well?

With the SLI config, yeah, that CPU upgrade wouldn't be a bad move in Socket 939 land. The PSU is a gruntier version of my 565VE (535W). Haven't killed it yet, plus, Enermax is a solid brand.
 
Ok Big B the paste and cleaning (compressed air cleaner with vacuum to collect dust) did not work (not working would mean...?) - going back to the cpu i was looking at you said it "wouldn't be a bad move" but how good of a move would it be as in still using my 7900 in SLI with the new CPU how do you think i would perform among DX10 apps and the like.... Thanks again

The cleaning the heatsink was just to check and make sure the CPU wasn't overheating because of dust, too much thermal paste (acts as an insulator), and/or improper contact with the CPU.

A faster CPU wouldn't be a bad move in the context of a processor upgrade for the Socket 939 platform. A faster CPU will push the graphics cards more than a slower CPU would. You've got a pretty fast graphics solution, and you may very well have a bottleneck with the CPU. Now, if you're going to upgrade your motherboard (and subsequently CPU and RAM) in the near future, then a CPU upgrade would be a bit daft.

There's almost nothing out on DX10 yet, so I don't have enough info to comment. Your video cards are DX9 parts, so they won't work when it comes to DX10-only situations. However, I think we're looking at them being a few years off. Additionally, DX10 is going to rely more on the video card than the CPU.
